i get so annoyed when ppl tell me they think the WC2006 England football team is overrated. and is THAT your reason for not supporting them?? :O
the media is probably to blame. they said the team is the most loaded team it's been in the history of england in the worldcup. was that the statement of pride that turned you off? or was that just the slight glimmer of hope in the hearts of the fans you were blind to? that maybe, justtt maybe, england would finally win, at last, after 4 decades of not even reaching the semifinals?
now that england are ousted, fine, overrated they are. but in my perspective, england were the underdogs in reality, right from the start. how could you not support the underdog? there were doubts from the very beginning. nearly everything eriksson did was questionable, from "taking too few strikers" to "can't decide on his best team".
the team was also plagued with endless factors that didnt go right when they should have. midfield "not giving enough service to the front", a frustrating goalless Frank Lampard, a nervous and near blunder-making keeper, and both spectacle and disappointment with rooney and owen.
i think they had so much "bad luck", it rubbed off onto Paraguay's own goal, a ball that came off beckham. speaking of beckham, the captain who only knows how to do free kicks, i dont hate him, but neither have i love for him. he can't even take the heat.
or maybe robinson stole all the "luck". he just had to stand there doing his little jumps while portugal make two misses on the penalty kicks.
and still they lost. thanks ricardo. and cristiano/rooney, i dunno who to blame between the two for that red card. chicken or the egg?
