the Violinist, pianist and clarinetist
we managed to meet the new msian students! this was like a month ago, and yea, i'm blogging about it now. what? ..hehe..
there are 3 new students this semester, but we only managed to meet up with only one of them thus far. her name's lai kheng, and she's doing her masters in music performance. she's a violinist.. :O
so we had a msian getogether at Bo Ling's on sunday morning for dim sum. it was great, we hadn't met up as a whole group in quite a while.
in my mind, i had a fixed mentality of what "new students" would be like. you know, first time in the states/overseas, everything's new, no friends yet, etc. None of these descriptions fit our "new student". i didn't even know she was a grad student. the truth is she's already been in the states for a few years in Ohio i think, and so...she's doing pretty well on her own. can't say the same for myself when i first got here. x)
Celeste is another new student we've not been able to meet. but celeste is already married and has kids here in the states (she's lai kheng's childhood friend, so that's why we know that much). she's doing her PhD in music performance as well, pianist.. double :O
i'm easily impressed with anyone pursuing studies in the arts..dunno, maybe cuz it's a science nerd meets cool artiste scenario... x)
So who's the clarinetist? Not the 3rd new student! HAH! the clarinetist is Eugene, he's already graduated, and an old timer at UMKC. what's interesting about Eugene is that, he was one of the founders of ISB! (Ipoh Symphonic Band)...so sorry if all this just doesn't perk your interest one bit, but it does me! well, only cuz i've always heard about the ISB since my high school/school band days, and suddenly i find one of it's founders here in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. is there a diabolical twist to all this....??! or does life simply pride itself in ironic encounters...
dunno who the last new student is. can't find her. yep, 3 ladies in one semester.
i got a haircut. don't really like it. like ah beng. x(
just started to listen to the Calling again. almost forgot that i had this album. got the CD from stef, chee chew, sL & bob before i came here. cool album, really like it. thanks muh machas!! x)
