chicago

wow, been almost an eternity since i last updated.
i think i'll start with my trip to Chicago way back during thanksgiving week.

Chicago was really cold. i think it felt colder than Buffalo, which i thought was weird. all this while, i thought that i had experienced the coldest it could get. i was wrong. what made it worse was that we had to be outdoors most of the time. obviously we had to be, we were sightseeing. i was very impressed when i first saw the landscape. skyscrapers all around you, felt incredible. hahaha, what to do, was in kampung ipoh nearly all my life. we went to many places to visit in Chicago.

our first stop was the art institute of Chicago. the first few exhibits i found very interesting. they had ancient art from all over the world on display, like gold ornaments from ancient Africa, wood carvings, old Chinese pottery, western knight armors (think Lord of the Rings), weapons like broadswords, spears, gun relics, etc etc. But when it got to the paintings, boredommm.......i just didnt know how to appreciate those. room after room of framed paintings. from the outside the building looked small, but when we were inside, we walked and walked and walked, i just couldnt wait to get out.

we also went to the Shedd aquarium, a mini Sea-world. i think it was the first time i saw a beluga whale, which i think is so adorable...hahaha. they have a little hump on their forehead, and they were swimming round and round in a pair. they put up a speaker in side the aquarium so that people could listen when they squeked and made noises. very cool.

the field museum was not bad as well. the only thing i found really impressive was this real bone structure of a T-Rex they call Sue. they claim it's the most complete in the world. i think it was a baby T (pun intended), i imagine T-rex would be alot bigger than Sue. she was only about the size of a large truck.

we met up with another group of msians from Purdue uni while we were there. they were Joyce's friends. i could not believe how some people can go shopping for a WHOLE day. hours and hours non-stop, i couldnt stand it. it was scary.

after shopping we went to a restaurant called "Penang". that's right, msian food. well, i wouldnt say it was fantastic, but it was pretty good nonetheless. but expensive. hey what can i say, i had to pay like RM 24 for a plate of cha kueh teow which was comparable to what they sell at Ah Choy back in ipoh....haahaha...

christmas break

merry christmas to everyone!

i think i've only spent two christmases at cgmc. ~sigh~
i wish there were more. it was the first time that i ever got christmas presents for anyone. yep, also, i got more presents than usual. but that's just a small part of what i miss.
i think i can say that christmas was better for me this year than last year. i didnt spend it alone, at my computer. at least kp was around, although we still pretty much did nothing...hahaha. we did go for a small party. someone i know who works at my part time job held a small christmas gathering at her place. there was food, a movie, and karaoke. hahaha...i was lucky that they only had chinese songs to pick from, so i didnt have to sing. oh, wait, they had some oldies, but i didnt know them, so i got away with it anyway. hahaha...but for most of them, they were MADE to sing. that was it, that's all for christmas this year, for me at least. there wasnt any church gathering, because it's not like that here. over here, christmas is spent with family. no church gatherings on the 25th, in fact, the church is closed.

"...most suicides are committed during the christmas season." ~
